If you are a lover of all things theatre, then the Aurora Theatre is one to put on your list. Just steps from Lawrenceville’s historic square, this theatre is a local favorite for plays and events. The Aurora offers programming for both adults and children, featuring plays, comedy nights, puppet shows, and fantastic circus-style acts. With room for just 250 people, this intimate theatre is a cozy setting for a date night with dinner nearby in downtown Lawrenceville, and you’re sure to have a spectacular view from anywhere in the house.

History

The Aurora Theatre was built in 1996 from the remains of a former hardware store. Along with an additional space from an adjacent renovated church, the Aurora now houses two performance spaces and produces over 850 events annually. The theatre has grown to become the largest arts organization in Gwinnett County and is Georgia’s fastest growing professional theatre. Now in it’s 23rd season, the Aurora Theatre has cemented itself as a permanent fixture of Lawrenceville’s bustling downtown entertainment scene.

What’s Special About the Aurora Theatre

In addition to its’ exciting contemporary theatre, the Aurora also hosts a number of unique programming options to explore. Comedy nights featuring the best of local Atlanta talent are a favorite, as well as experimental “choose-your-own-adventure” type plays where guests can enjoy cocktails and visit different areas of the theatre to view intimate play vignettes in the order of their choosing. The theatre also offers Spanish language programming through its’ Teatro Aurora series, and offers a bilingual experience in many of its’ other programs. And for the kids, the Children’s Playhouse is a series of fun family-friendly shows featuring puppets, pirates, and more. Aurora’s diversity of entertainment options make it a playhouse you’ll find reasons to visit again and again.
